Organizing the Entryway

Tag: Decorating, Tips for Home OwnersJane @ 7:54 am

After a long day of work and a painful commute home, you pull into your driveway, tired and weary. When you step inside, still donning your jacket, dress shoes and briefcase or purse, your focus is probably on one of a few simple tasks. Most immediate: getting comfortable.

When done properly, an organized entryway or landing strip is part convenience, part necessity. It provides a place to place your keys, your shoes, your outerwear, and it does it without wasting time or causing clutter.

When trying to organize the space that welcomes you home, here are some tips to keep in mind:

Flooring: Something waterproof and resilient would be best here, as the area will likely see quite a bit of traffic.

Outerwear: A row of coat hooks on the wall or a free-standing coat rack provide places for keeping outerwear as you step inside.

Cubbies: Storage cubbies can complement your coat hooks/rack and neatly hide away things like gloves, scarves, shoes, etc.

For small spaces: A small box could be installed inside the door or next to it. (See this article from Apartment Therapy.)

Who would ever think the entryway could be improved. It’s good to be reminded of these things. What a great service you do for FSBO home sellers. They need a place to go where they can get all the information they could use to make and keep their homes in tip-top shape.
Your doing a great job Jane. Keep up the good work!

Great tips, Jane! I also recommend having a bench or chair in the entryway so guests can take a seat and take off their shoes/boots. You dont want people tracking dirt/mud into your house! (This is extremely useful during the winter).
