Slow down, America!

In today’s fast-paced world, everyone seems to be in a hurry. Even if we leave the house an hour before we need to be at work and it only takes 40 minutes to get there, many of us end up speeding, changing lanes without signaling, etc. We’re always rushing to get to the end destination.

Don’t you remember how disappointing it was to get on that new thrill ride at your city’s theme park only to find out that it actually lasted a just a few short minutes? After just 1 minute and 47 seconds… it was over! You waited in line for over an hour; and in what seemed to be a millisecond, the fun was instantly gone.

People selling houses seem to have adopted the same attitude when it comes to putting their home on the market. They list their house, and they expect it to sell in a few days, a few weeks, maybe a month. You have to remember, this isn’t about you. It’s all about the buyer’s wants and needs. And while it is not fun to sit around and wait for the sell of your house, you can always have fun marketing the property!

Using Buy Owner, you can have a team of professional writers create an advertisement for your home. They will write it to your specifications, so the marketing of your house is really in your hands! You can also have some fun with the showing of your home. There are some excellent ideas on the Buy Owner Blog including suggestions for staging your home, getting rid of clutter and more!

Another thing I have noticed is that people might invest in a property they know they cannot sell later. Let’s say a person buys a nice fixer-upper. They spend thousands of dollars cleaning up the landscape, installing custom fixtures and updating tile/hardwood floors, thereby bringing the value of the house up to a high price most buyers will not be willing to pay right now in this poor market. Yet, sellers are not willing to lower the price, leaving their homes on the market for years.

As a long-time agent, my advice is to SLOW DOWN. First, think about why your house is not selling. Maybe it is priced too high. Maybe you haven’t made all the necessary repairs. Take a step back and look at your property from the buyer’s perspective. After you have made adjustments, be patient.
